It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them.

HTC diamond is here...............But not so early in India 11:53 PM

Well, HTC Touch Diamond, a new generation full touchscreen phone from HTC is here.

This time HTC certainly managed to build up some big buzz around the launch of their new handset. And it might just be worth it.

To be really sure that HTC Diamond is as good as it seems from official presentations, spec sheet and pics, I’ll have to have a possibility to play around with it. And the main question will be how well the new 3D accelerated TouchFlo interface is implemented.

But if HTC managed to get the touch UI thing right, HTC Diamond might be one of the most impressive handsets to debut this year.

The looks are great and while HTC Diamond spec sheet mostly does not match the one on the latest Nokia N96, it’s not too shabby either and will be more then enough for everyday user searching for a really good looking smart phone.

HTC Diamond specs include:

  • Connectivity:
    • HSDPA/WCDMA (Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz, Up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link)
    • Tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Qualcomm® MSM7201A™ 528 MHz CPU
  • Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional OS
  • ROM: 256 MB, RAM: 192 MB DDR SDRAM, Internal storage: 4 GB
  • 2.8-inch TFT-LCD flat touch-sensitive VGA resolution (640×480 px) display
  • 3.2 mpx camera with autofocus
  • VGA CMOS front color camera
  • TouchFLO™ 3D interface, Touch-sensitive navigation control
  • Built-in accelerometer with automatic screen rotation
  • GPS and A-GPS ready
  • Bluetooth® 2.0 with EDR, Wi-Fi®: IEEE 802.11 b/g,
  • HTC ExtUSB™ (11-pin mini-USB 2.0 and audio jack in one)
  • Built-in microphone, speaker and FM radio with RDS
  • 900 mAh battery with up 330 min talk and 396 stand-by time
  • Dimensions: 102 mm (L) X 51 mm (W) X 11.5 mm (T)
  • Weight: 110 g (with battery)

Well, as you can see, the main highlight of the HTC Diamond will be the big and bright 2.8″ VGA display. Built-in accelerometer, GPS and Wi-Fi b/g, high 3.5G data rates on a fancy new touch UI are also helpful.

And while the 3.2 mpx camera and 4GB of internal storage in HTC Diamond is nothing to write home about these days, they are more then enough for most of the tasks.

I guess HTC were right to be very optimistic about this phone, and carriers that lost out on an iPhone contract are probably already lining up at their door.
